INTERESTING WEB SITES & BLOGS
I've been collecting slips of paper of interesting weblogs that are out there about librarianship. Here are a few favs.
Women in History of American Librarianship - http://www.pe.net/~ellerbee/wom_lib.html
Created (by Lisa R. Bartle, Librarian at California State University San Bernardino) to provide information about woman librarians who have been important to the profession. Not really a webblog but more of a site giving information about these women.
FUN SITES
http://www.jenw.org/home.htm Librarian Career Romances features novels often written by librarian authors, and starring heroines (sorry man librarians—you're left out in the cold as usual) who find love amidst the glamour of card catalogs, microfilm readers, and bookmobiles. This site was created by Jen Wolfe a MLIS student at UofWashington. Very fun since I love series girls books from the 1920's to 1980's. I'll have to see if I can track any of these down.
http://www.millikin.edu/staley/fluff/peep_research.html - supplied by Kurt Wagner - it is really fun.
librarian.net - http://www.librarian.net/
A daily diary of what is happening on the web regarding all aspects of librarianship. A lot of rambling but interesting stuff nevertheless.
Lipstick Librarian - http://www.lipsticklibrarian.com/
The stereotypical perception of a librarian as a cold, schoolmarmish bookworm suffused with Eau de Mothball is about to change, if this site has anything to do with it. Not a lot of content but fun to puruse through.
Unshelved -
http://www.overduemedia.com/archive.aspx is a really funny online comic strip that featues a library. Used to be called Overdue. Main character is called Dewey and follows the life of a public library. You can view all the back issues on the online archive.
Human Clock - http://www.humanclock.com/clock.php
Everyone knows how to go to
http://www.time.gov/ - but if you want to have a giggle while finding out the time then check out the human clock which features everyday people holding up signs that show the current time.
